Description
The Sanctuary Scholarship is offered by Newman University as part of the Helena Kennedy Foundation's Article 26 Project. It is available to applicants from a forced migrant background who have received an offer to study at Newman University.
The scholarship is open to eligible students applying for a full-time undergraduate programme, a Foundation Year programme, or, for Ukrainian nationals, a one-year full-time postgraduate degree. Two undergraduate scholarships are awarded annually.
Benefits
The scholarship includes:
Full tuition fee waiver.
£1,200 annual bursary for study and travel expenses.
Personal support and advice throughout the course.
Consideration for free campus accommodation for students living outside a commutable distance from the University.
Eligibility
- Must be an asylum seeker or forced migrant, or the partner/dependent of an asylum seeker or forced migrant.
- Or have been granted Discretionary Leave to Remain (DLR) or another temporary immigration status covering the duration of the course.
Must hold a conditional or unconditional offer for:
- a full-time undergraduate degree,
- a Foundation Year undergraduate degree,
- or (for Ukrainian nationals) a one-year full-time postgraduate degree.
Must have applied for asylum in the UK before applying to Newman University.
- Must be unable to access Student Finance England because of immigration status.
- Must be able to provide a supporting reference from a school, college, community, or voluntary organisation (or discuss alternatives with the University).
