Ben-Gurion University of the Negev has around 20,000 students and 4,000 faculty members in the Faculties of Engineering Sciences; Health Sciences; Natural Sciences; the Pinchas Sapir Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; the Guilford Glazer Faculty of Business and Management; the Joyce and Irving Goldman School of Medicine; the Kreitman School of Advanced Graduate Studies; and the Albert Katz International School for Desert Studies. Library services
The Ben-Gurion University of the Negev Zalman Aranne Library was founded in 1965 in the library of the Beit Hias (Hias House) hostel, which had been turned into a home for the Institute for Higher Education in the Negev.
Campus life
- With a vibrant student life and an amazing sense of community, your time at BGU will be truly unforgettable. Campus and city life includes movie theaters, a state-of-the-art sports center, pubs, espresso bars, restaurants, 24-hr computer labs, and home-like dorms.
- Enjoy a genuine campus experience, where multicultural and international students engage in over 30 extracurricular clubs. The very active student union initiates a variety of cultural and social events throughout the year, including parties and organized weekend getaways.
Sports facilities
There are many options for physical activity in Beer-Sheva. The University has its own Sports Center located on the north-east corner of Arlozorov and Ben-Gurion Boulevard. The Sports Center is open seven days a week, though hours vary (for example, it closes early Friday and Saturday, opens at noon on Sunday; please check with the help of an Israeli or with an online translator). The Center has two 25-meter lap pools, one of which is indoors/covered and one outdoors, a leisure pool, sauna and steam rooms; basketball, volleyball and tennis courts; locker rooms; equipment/clothing shop; and a weight room with exercise machines. You will need to swipe your BGU (blue) ID card to enter the facility.
Student clubs
BGU has a very active and helpful student union. They organize events and help keep students updated on all the important university news. The union can help you with everything from joining sports activities to finding an apartment.
