The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano was founded in 1997 with the vision of a internationally oriented institution representative of multicultural alpine territory. Classes are held in German, Italian and English and a high number of students (16%) and teaching staff (32%) come from abroad and at the same time its courses are strongly rooted in the territory at the heart of beautiful Dolomites.
The university has five faculties, and a high percentage of lecturers (35%) and students (17%) come from abroad and they study, teach and do research in the fields of Economics, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Social Sciences, Education and Design.
Despite its recent foundation, unibz in the past few years has already established itself as an important research institution, both in Italy and abroad. If, on one hand, many of our resarch projects tackle global environmental, economic, social or technology topics, on the other hand many are deeply rooted in our region. They address the current issues of sustainable use or resources, socio-economic development and lifelong learning within the Alps. The main features of our research are interdisciplinary collaboration and interaction with local companies.
We collaborate with companies and institution at a local, national and international level. We facilitate the employment of students and graduates and, through our research activities, we assist companies in the development of innovative products, processes and services.
In order to help prospective students make an informed decision about the choice of their future degree, we offer individuals and schools the opportunity to get to know our university through a variety of orientation events, like the Open Day, lectures of professors in schools, and many other opportunities of getting tailored information and advice.
