History
Vaasan ammattikorkeakoulu VAMK, University of Applied Sciences, started its operation as a temporary polytechnic on 1st of August 1996 and was based on five institutions: Vaasa Institute of Technology, Vaasa Commercial College, Vaasa College of Hotel and Restaurant Services, Vaasa College of Health Care and Vaasa College of Household and Social Services.
Education
At VAMK we offer two full-time degree programmes in English: Information Technology and International Business. We also offer Master's degree in business and engineering.
Research
We have a long tradition of research and development, expert services and project partnerships. At the heart of our competence are multidisciplinary expertise and an excellent knowledge of the local business sector. We strongly invest in sharing expertise and in cooperation via tangible projects.

Student services
Study offices take care of administrative matters related to studies such as:
- preparing and writing of degree certificates
- updating of personal study plan in Peppi (grades are registered by teachers within one month)
- official extracts of completed studies
- official study certificates
- student discount forms for railway (VR)/long-distance buss (Matkahuolto). Discount form for railway (VR) is not valid as a scanned copy. You have to collect the certificate from the student office.

Housing services
VAMK has no dormitories or any other kind of accommodation arrangements for its students. Students have to take care of the accommodation matters by themselves. The accommodation situation for students in Vaasa is fairly good. The most common way to organize housing is to rent an apartment from VOAS, the Student Housing Foundation in Vaasa. In general, their rents are lower than in the private market, because most of the tenants are students.
Library services
The library’s staff will assist you in accessing the resources required for your studies. The library material includes, for example, course books, reference reading, data bases, electronic reference reading and complementary material mainly in the fields of study.
ICT services
There is a wireless eduroam-roaming system on the VAMK's buildings. This is a global wireless network that allows for free access in different universities and campus areas around the world. eduroam is the only authorized wireless network for your own devices on the VAMK-campus.
Medical services
Accidents and acute illnesses are primarily treated in municipal health care centres. In dental emergency, international students may turn to the dental clinic in municipal health care centres. International degree students like other degree students as well shall use YTHS (=FSHS= Finnish Students Health Service).
Campus life
The VAMK's premises are located on the Palosaari higher education campus, within walking distance from the centre of Vaasa. The Technobothnia education and research laboratory, the Tritonia science library, the Muova design centre and the Alere learning centre of social services and health care are located on Palosaari. The University of Vaasa and Yrkeshögskolan Novia are also on the same campus.
Sports facilities
The student union VAMOK is offering you different kind of sports. The sports are good balance for studying and as a member of VAMOK you'll gain free access to gym, futsal, floorball, volleyball and to few group sports shifts.
Student clubs
In Vaasan ammattikorkeakoulu VAMK, University of Applied Sciences, there is a student union arranged by law. The duties of the student union are taken care of by Student Union of VAMK, VAMOK, a service and benefit surveillance organisation with about 1,700 student members.
The AACSB accreditation process in the field of business studies at the University of Vaasa started in autumn 2017 and will end in 2024. The University is currently in the implementation phase of the development actions identified in the self-assessment.
