Richmond College was founded in 1843 and remained a part of the University of London until1972, when Richmond, the American International University in London was established as anindependent, not-for-profit liberal arts university by Sir Cyril Taylor (GBE), a British educator andsocial entrepreneur, who services to education have been recognized many times over.
At Richmond we offer the best of both the US and UK higher education systems: the US focus onthe liberal arts and the British system’s focus specialization. We are devoted to offering anoutstanding quality of teaching. This is made possible through a high number of contact hours,small class sizes, and seminar style lectures where students are encouraged to interact anddebate with their lecturers, many of whom have recognition for research within their specialistfield. We have three active Research Centres at Richmond: (1) The Centre for the Study of PersuasiveIndustries (CSPI), which is London’s first academic centre researching the worlds of advertising,public relations and lobbying. (2) The Centre for International Visual Arts and Cultures (IVAC)explores the plurality of visual arts and cultures in all their aspects, from production, history,theory, media and practice to dissemination, impact and public engagement. (3) The State,Power and Globalisation (SPG) engages with research into the ongoing transformation ofpolitical structures at the level of the state and of international politics.

Our accommodation comprises single, double occupancy rooms split over our two campuses–Richmond Hill and Kensington. Our Richmond Hill campus is situated in a quiet residential area. Richmond Hill accommodation is mainly for first and second year students. Accommodation atour Kensington campus is situated in a quiet residential area just minutes away from High StreetKensington and Kensington Palace. Richmond University’s halls of residence will provide youwith many benefits for the duration of your programme.
Libraries are available at both Richmond University campuses. Their opening times varyingdepending on the time of year. They are open later than usual during examination periods.Students can find 60,000 books and DVDs housed at the libraries, as well as 39,000 e-journalsand 36,000 newspaper/newswire subscriptions.
There is a range of IT and AV services and facilities available to students. Networked computerscan be found in dedicated computer labs and open access areas on both campuses. Richmondoperates its own university-wide WI-FI service and student portal. This is also available in ouroff-campus residential buildings free of charge.
Health and happiness go hand in hand, and we have a wide range of services dedicated tolooking after your wellbeing. We work hard to consider our students’ emotional and physicalhealth, and encourage our whole community to think positively, exercise daily, work hard andbe happy. During their time at Richmond, students have easy access to counselling services,healthcare, advice and guidance.
The Richmond Hill campus has a multi-purpose outdoor court for tennis, basketball, volleyball and mini-soccer. A well-equipped Fitness Center is available in the Main Building, basement level (open 06:00 -24:00 last entry 23:00, daily). A cardio studio is available for University sponsored recreational classes onthe ground level of the "Main Building". In addition, for a monthly fee, Cedars Health and Leisure Club islocated directly behind the Richmond Hill campus and features a full health and leisure facility includinga swimming pool. There is also access to local gymnasiums throughout Richmond, where volleyball andfootball matches are held, usually over the weekend.
The Student Government is comprised of elected members of the student body. Its purpose is to serveand represent the interests of Richmond students in the areas of academic, social and student life. TheStudent Government also arrange social and educational activities for the entire student body. Parties,excursions, musical performances, competitions, charity events and more. There is a wide range of clubsand societies, such as the Psychology Society, Wine and Cheese Society, Model UN, Fashion for a Cause,Club Smash, Richmond’s computer gaming society.
Richmond, the American International University in London holds various accredited by variousagencies, including the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) in the UnitedStates. The Open University in the UK. Richmond underwent a successful review by the QualityAssurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) in February 2015. The University has professionalaccreditations with this British Psychological Society (BPS), and Richmond Business School is anaccredited Higher Education Partner of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and the Public Relations and Communications Association.
