About

History

Avans University of Applied Sciences was founded on 1 January 2004 following a merger of Hogeschool Brabant and Hogeschool 's-Hertogenbosch.

We make a sustainable difference. We train future-proof professionals ready to enter the workforce. Continuously develop new knowledge for education and society. In partnership with companies, institutions and government agencies

Education

There is no victory without struggle. Although this may seem like a big cheesy cliché you would find on a tile in your grandma’s kitchen, your sisters Pinterest board or your daily Insta feed, it is also a cold hard truth. And we at Avans believe in this truth wholeheartedly.

That’s why we expect a lot from our students. We expect you to be all in, keep working at it, constantly pushing yourself to be the best you can be and surprise yourself of what you are capable of.

In return, you will get top quality education and our undivided personal attention, support and dedication to help you find and unlock your true potential.

Research

At Avans, practice-based research is carried out at our 6 centres of applied research and over 25 research groups.

Career

Studying at Avans means acquiring state-of-the-art knowledge. But that's not all. You will also learn how to apply this knowledge in real business or professional projects. Our studies are geared perfectly to the requirements of organisations that operate internationally. Avans graduates have an excellent reputation and often have a head start in the world of international business. They work in highly qualified positions all over the world.

Services

Housing services

Avans University of Applied Sciences does not offer student accommodation. Instead, we have partnered with the 2 major housing associations in Breda to launch an accommodation reservation website.

What you need to know about these rooms:

  • All rooms are fully furnished.
  • You will share accommodation with other students, usually international students.
  • Rental prices range from €370 to €475 per month. This includes water, electricity, gas and internet access.
  • You will need to pay the rent for the full semester in 1 payment when you sign the rental agreement.

Medical services

There is only one type of health insurance in the Netherlands, namely the basic health insurance. Everyone living in the Netherlands is obliged to have this insurance, which costs around € 80.00 per month. This has a number of consequences for people from abroad whose residence in the Netherlands is temporary.

Student Life

Student clubs

Set up by students for students, the GreenOffice initiates and coordinates projects that drive sustainability at Avans. These may be set up to tackle social problems, such as social inequality, or to bring about practical changes, including more sustainable business operations at Avans. The GreenOffice’s efforts help Avans realise its sustainability goals.

Student Reviews

equality for all the people!
Anonymous rated 2 out of 5 stars

as an international student, I always face discrimination which is only based on the country that I've been born in. This leads to financial problems and lack of help. The Dutch government proudly admits that they only help dutch people and as an international, the only this that is equal between me and a dutch person is the obligation of paying the tax.

Avans - Your possibility to grow!
Anonymous rated 4 out of 5 stars

Avans is a very good school. Their education is, in my opinion, at a good level. And the communication from the academic to students is very clear. Although, there is sometimes a possiblitity to improve the communication from intern a study to the students. Besides this point I have educated myself to a higher level, therefor I like to give Avans the credits for that...

I had a bad experience in searching for scholarships
