AUEB was founded over 100 years ago, in 1920, as the “Athens School of Commercial Studies”. The school was founded through the strategic vision of the Greek Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos, who envisaged a business school modelled on the best similar schools in Western Europe, and was funded by a generous donation from merchant Grigorios Maraslis, a Greek benefactor living in Odessa.
Over time, AUEB gradually developed into the leading University in its areas of focus in Greece. Initially offering degrees only on economics and business, as was customary at the time, the subject areas served by the University progressively expanded to include areas like informatics, statistics, marketing, among others.
AUEB has often pioneered new elements in Greek Higher Education. It was the first University to offer a Master’s degree in Economics already in 1978, a degree that is still offered today. AUEB also introduced the Erasmus program very early on, already from 1987, enabling international student exchange to and from the University.

The International Relations Office of the University was established in 1989. The main objectives of the Office are:
Greek Universities do not have dormitories available to international students. This means that incoming students must look for accommodation in Athens prior to their arrival. The University is actively assisting students with the search for housing. AUEB has developed significant expertise in this area, since already more than 500 international students every year come to AUEB to study, mostly through the Erasmus program. As such, AUEB can direct admitted students to reputable housing agents, introduce them to existing international student networks that provide practical advice, and suggest areas to stay
The AUEB Library was established in the 1920s. Since then, it has accommodated generation upon generation of University students. Today the Library is of a hybrid type, combining printed and electronic material.

The main building of the University "Marasleio Megaro" is located at 76, Patission (28is Oktovriou) Street in Athens, two blocks away from the Archaeological Museum. The backside of the building faces the Pedion Areos Park and the Panellinios Sports Club.

I studied at the Faculty of Economics, and overall I had a positive experience. The program gave me a solid foundation in economics and practical skills, and the professors were supportive when I needed guidance.
It helped me form all of the statistical knowledge for the future !it has so many choices and directions based on the students’ needs and wants .
