History
From the beginning, the history of the University of Warsaw has been inextricably linked to the history of Warsaw itself and in some measure – the history of the entire Republic of Poland, which, partitioned by the neighboring countries (Prussia, Austria-Hungary and Russia) towards the end of the eighteenth century disappeared from the European map for more than a hundred years.
Education
Taking into account the total number of research universities that reaches 20 thousand, the University of Warsaw is among the top 3% of the world’s best universities. According to international rankings, it also is the best university in Poland and one of the leading ones in this region of Europe. In addition, the University of Warsaw holds very good positions in comparative evaluations of the quality of education, in particular study programmes, such as the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Ranking and Eduniversal Best Masters and MBA Worldwide.
Research
The leading concepts of the University’s activity are the unity of teaching and research, and the harmonious development of all branches of knowledge represented in its curriculum. The University employs 3,700 scholars, 1/5 of whom hold professorial titles. Their scientific enquiry extends over 3,250 research topics; students who they concurrently teach have the opportunity of joining in their research projects. The University’s research teams have won worldwide recognition in many areas of knowledge and have joined international research programmes.
Career
Several thousand prospective students visited the University of Warsaw during its Open Day. They could get to know the UW offer of 1st and 2nd cycle study programmes, meet students and staff, take part in university campus tours and find out what life as a student of UW is like.
Open Days are an excellent opportunity to get information about study programmes and the university. UW provides a wide range of studies in humanities, and social, exact and natural sciences, as well as individual interdisciplinary studies, English-language programmes and programmes of study run jointly with universities from abroad.

Student services
The scholars participate in 1500 projects financed by national or international research programmes, such as EU framework programmes, European Science Foundation, European Cooperation in the Field of Scientific and Technical Research, European Economic Area and Norway Grants, European Molecular Biology Organization.
Housing services
To help visitors from abroad, UW set up the Welcome Point – an information point where everyone, especially students, can get help and information during their stay at the University of Warsaw. Currently, WP is situated in its pavilion.
WP is open all year long. One can find it in the St. Roch Hospital on the UW main campus. However, from 17th September until 12th October, its employees will assist international students, and everyone who needs help, in the pavilion situated in the small courtyard.Library services
On 28th-29th March, the first meeting of the librarians, working in the 4EU+ universities, took place at the University of Warsaw Library. Representatives of libraries shared their experiences with information literacy education for international students, access to e-resources, international institutional cooperation within library and information science organizations.
ICT services
The University buildings have 40 Internet hotspots, with the greatest number of access points at the Krakowskie Przedmie´scie campus. UW is part of Eduroam, a global system which allows UW staff and students to obtain Internet connectivity in various research and education centres worldwide without having to reconfigure their devices.

- In Poland, health insurance is obligatory for all students – regardless of whether you are planning to stay several months or several years.
- University of Warsaw staff with an employment contract pay obligatory social security contributions and health insurance.

Sports facilities
The University of Warsaw Sports and Recreation Centre (CSiR UW) offers swimming pool, jacuzzi, gym, halls for team games and an indoor climbing wall (some facilities are available only on a payment basis).
Student clubs
The aim of the Student Union is to strengthen the position of student community so that they could have influence on The University and faculties matters, and appoint their representatives. Students’ Union may be an adventure, a challenge or a place, which gives an opportunity to develop passions, implement ideas, be creative and gain incomparable experience at the same time.
The Board of the University of Warsaw Students’ Union is an executive organ of Students’ Union at the University level. Not only does it deal with formal matters, but it also co-operates with and supports unit Students’ Unions.Accreditation
EQUIS – European Quality Improvement System is one of the three prestigious and well known accreditations for business schools and faculties around the world. Its aim is to assess the quality of education of the study programmes offered by a given institution and to provide and improve the quality of education in the field of management. The accreditation primarily focuses on the development of entrepreneurial behaviour among students and the implementation of didactic innovations.

I am a student at this university, and my overall experience has been good. The teachers are supportive and knowledgeable, and the academic system is well-organized. The campus has good facilities, including a library, labs, and student areas. The environment is friendly, and there are many activities for students. However, some administrative processes can be slow. Overall, it is a good university for students who want quality education and a positive campus experience.
