History
Since its foundation in 1966 as a reform university, the University of Konstanz has stood for top-level research, excellence in teaching and study, internationality as well as interdisciplinary collaboration. This distinctive orientation soon led to the development of a profile that stands out due to a focus on high levels of quality, innovation and creativity in all aspects of our work.
Education
The University of Konstanz is comprised of thirteen departments that are divided into three faculties: the Faculty of Sciences, the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Politics - Law - Economics. According to its original foundation as a reform university, the University of Konstanz does not have institutes or chairs.
Research
Research in Konstanz is characterised by collaboration across departments and the performance-based allocation of resources. Close interdisciplinary collaboration is promoted by flat hierarchies, faculty structures without institutions and the layout of our campus that promotes daily contact between researchers from all disciplines. Our research focuses are include Cultural Studies, Social and Cognitive Sciences with a Special Focus on Inequality Research, Collective Behaviour and Ecology, Chemical Biology and Nano and Materials Science.

Student services
The International Office will assist you through its extensive range of advisory services and its diverse exchange and funding programmes.
Library services
The Communication, Information, Media Centre (KIM) is the university's central service provider for IT and library services. KIM was created by combining the library, IT Service Centre and administrative IT.
ICT services
The SysAdmin team is responsible for the departmental computer lab and provides support for all servers and networks.
Medical services
At the Welcome Center, we can help you find doctors who are able to communicate in languages other than German. Please contact us if you need information about multi-lingual doctors in Konstanz.
Sports facilities
The outdoor sports facilities are in an idyllic location near the lake and sports hall. Students and staff have convenient access to sports infrastructure and equipment, which includes the following facilities:

Student clubs
The possibilities for you to get involved are boundless: A variety of university groups provide you with opportunities to engage in the professional, political, social, religious, musical and sports activities that interest you.If you work with the student union “AStA”, you can become a part of the university’s student representation. This branch of the student representation aims to communicate the political, social and cultural interests of the student body to the university and broader community.
On 26 March 2021 the Swiss Agency of Accrediation (AAQ) certified the system re-accreditation of the University of Konstanz without any obligations. The system re-accreditation is focused on the internal quality assurance system of a university in the field of study and teaching.
