History
In 1928, concerned by the primarily academic focus of medical training in national universities at that time, Dr. Shusuke Kamijo established Showa Medical University, advocating the need for teaching future physicians basic clinical ability.
Education
Based on this philosophy, Showa University has emphasized “team medical care for patients”, and our university has evolved from a medical college and nursing school to a comprehensive medical university.
Research
Taking advantage of Showa University being a comprehensive medical university, research activities involving collaboration of the 4 schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and nursing and rehabilitation sciences is actively being carried out.
The achievement of the collaborative research by professors and research staff of each school and graduate schools attracts the attention of both domestic and overseas medical societies and also contributes to the daily development of medicine by establishing new therapies and to the development and clinical application of new pharmaceutical agents.

Housing services
For our international guests we can offer two accommodations, "Flag" and "Building No. 15", which are owned by Showa University and are located near the main hospital at Hatanodai. At these two facilities, we provide temporary accommodation for new visitors. All of the units are fully furnished and equipped with a kitchen area, refrigerator, washing machine, air conditioner/heater and free internet.
