History
Shanghai Ocean University, formerly known as Jiangsu Provincial Fisheries College, was founded in 1912 by Zhang Jian and Huang Yanpei.
Education
In addition to three post-doctoral research stations, three doctoral degree programs of LevelⅠacademic disciplines, ten master degree programs of Level I academic disciplines, four professional master degree programs, 47 undergraduate programs, and ten 10 higher vocational programs.
Research
- The university boasts great strength in scientific research. Since start of the 11th Five-Year Plan, more than 6 achievements have obtained awards for scientific research projects or achievements at national level, more than 63 achievements have won awards at provincial or ministerial level, and over 1530 patents have been granted to the university.
- The university has made significant contributions in such fields as environmental protection, species protection, genetic breeding, food processing, exploitation and utilization of marine resources, aquaculture, agricultural economy and management.

University Ranking
Housing services
- SHOU offers 2 International Student Apartment buildings with over300 beds available on campus. A public common area including a study lounge, activity room, as well as kitchens and laundry rooms is located on the first floor. All rooms are equipped with an air conditioner, bed, desk, wardrobe, internet/telephone outlets, and other basic necessities.
- All rooms in Apartment No.1 are suite room with a single room and a double room, sharing a bathroom. A public common area including a study lounge, activity room, as well as kitchens and laundry rooms are located on the first floor.
Library services
There are more than 1.37 million paper books, 0.92 million e-books, and over 40 databases in the library, most of which areconcerned with ocean, fisheries and foods. The university organizes Journal of Fisheries of China and hosts Journal of Shanghai Ocean University.
ICT services
The university enjoys modernized campus network and has set up the website of China fisheries toserve the fishery industry.
Campus life
At present, the university has two campuses, namely, Huchenghuang Road campus in Pudong New Area and Jungong Road campus. Huchenghuan Road campus covers an area of about 1,600 mu and its planned construction area is 586,000 square meters.

Student clubs
The International Student Association Union (ISAU) of Shanghai Ocean University was established in September, 2018. ISAU aims at creating a high-quality sharing and idea exchanging platform and providing opportunities to co-host and to participate in various events for Chinese students and international students.
