History
Quaid-i-Azam University (once named Islamabad University) was established in July 1967 under the Act of National Assembly and started teaching and research programmes for PhD and MPhil degrees.
Education
For growing educational and technical needs of the country, the University imparts quality education and training on lower strata of life in the field of computer and runs a wide range of short term certificate and diploma courses. In all, the University’s academic programmes, have an enrollment of over 5,500 students.
Research
The Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) has been established under the directives of Higher Education Commission (HEC).
The aim of ORIC is to:
- Identify research opportunities for faculty members
- Facilitate faculty to apply for research grants
- Legal, administrative and financial management support of research grants
- Support commercialization, licensing etc, of the university research products
- Promotion of the research culture
- Encouraging the publishing of the subject journals
- Focal point for all the research related works in connection with funds/liaison with the funding agencies
- Identifying new ways and opportunities of collaborations in fields of Biological, Social, Medical & Natural Sciences

Library services
Dr. Raziuddin Siddiqi Memorial Library (central library) is located at the center of university academic campus. Central library shifted from the departmental premises to its own building in 1985, comprising of four floors. The total covered area of DRSM library is about 102,500 sq. ft.
