About

History

1974A fourth Victorian universityOn 25 February the Federal Cabinet Welfare Committee decides that Victoria's fourth university will be based in Geelong. Kim Beazley, the Federal Minister for Education, announces the university will absorb The Gordon and the State College of Victoria (Geelong). The Deakin University Act is later passed on 10 December.

Student services

Deakin College students have access to a range of support services and campus facilities to ensure a smooth academic and emotional transition to university level study.

Deakin College Student Advisers are committed to providing you with support and advise to help you reach your full potential while studying at Deakin College. Appointments can be made to discuss study or personal issues, academic assistance, accommodation difficulties, family matters, attendance issues and home-sickness. Students are encouraged to make an appointment at Deakin College Reception.

Housing services

On-Campus Accommodation is only available at the following campuses:

  • Melbourne Burwood Campus
  • Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus

Accommodation varies at each campus but all are within walking distance of campus facilities.

Library services

The Library at each campus of Deakin University provides information, resources and services to support your study.

Medical services

Deakin Medical Centre is a youth-friendly medical service for students and staff. The doctors and nurses are experienced and skilled health care professionals who aim to provide cost effective and confidential (private) health care.

Deakin College is located on three of Deakin University's campuses: Melbourne Burwood Campus, Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus and Geelong Waterfront Campus.

Being on campus means you have full access to all campus facilities making your transition to university life a lot easier. Listed below are some of the facilities available to you.

Sports facilities

A range of special interest and recreation clubs are active on campus, facilitated by the Deakin University Student Association (DUSA). Sport clubs include athletics, coaching, football, golf, basketball, badminton, soccer, pool and tae kwon do.

Student clubs

The Student Committee (SC) seeks to provide students with a voice. Opening a conduit for communication between staff and the student body provides an avenue where current student issues can be discussed, with valid feedback offered, in order to improve the quality of student life at Deakin College.

The SC also aims to foster a sense of community at Deakin College. The SC is made up of a cross section of committed students and staff who represent the Deakin College student body. The student members of the SC are appointed to represent the interests and needs of the entire Deakin College student body for a period of one trimester.
