About

History

  • In 1892, Seventh-day Adventists living near Dallas chose a committee to locate property for a school in Johnson County. 
  • By January 6, 1894, a school building was completed. It doubled as the church, which was organized with 67 members. On January 7, the school opened with 56 students in all grades. The enrollment increased to 90 as other families moved to the new town that became Keene.

SWAU Student Association - We seek to bring life and vibrancy to the campus by maintaining the social, physical, and spiritual welfare of the student body.

Housing services

Southwestern Adventist University’s residence halls are more than a place to sleep and rest between classes. They are a place to form a community, to study together, and to worship together.

There are two residence halls available to women and two available to men. All residents have access to laundry rooms and gathering spaces, although the exact details of those will vary.

Medical services

Colds? Coughs? Fever? SWAU Health Services is here to help you when you are ill or have minor injuries.  The clinic is located in the lower level of Harmon Hall.  A licensed nurse is available Monday-Friday (hours as posted).  Preference is given to those students who schedule an appointment.  Appointments need to be scheduled at least one hour prior to the opening of Health Services.

Campus life

  • Harmon Hall is a women’s residence hall that houses 160 students. Any female student from freshman to senior year status is eligible to live in this hall.
  • Meier Hall is designated for female students who are 21 years or older. This hall houses 45 students.
  • Miller Hall - Men's Residence Hall 
  • Hadley Hall - Men's Residence Halls 

Sports facilities

Leiske-Pultar Gymnasium - Fully equipped with dedicated weight and aerobic rooms as well as racquetball, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts, The Leiske-Pultar Gymnasium has everything student needs to stay fit, balanced and healthy. Students are also welcome to enjoy the campus swimming pool, its expansive soccer, softball and flag football fields as well as its prestigious gymnastics program.
