On May 7, 2015, the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology, founded in 1974, officially adopted our new name, William James College.William James (1842-1910), the founder of American psychology is considered to be one of the most influential and innovative thinkers of the 19th century, and he was the mentor to, among others, John Dewey, the architect of experiential learning
Since our founding, an education at MSPP/William James College has meant classroom instruction that creatively integrates psychological theory and research with critical self-knowledge and clinical illustrations offered by supervisors, colleagues and a practitioner faculty.

Career Services offers career guidance and employment counseling, workshops, events, and resources to students and alumni across disciplines. Housing in Boston in the Fall is scarce and expensive, for this reason we suggest you begin your search early. The downtown section of Boston tends to be high priced, while the surrounding communities tend to be more abundant and affordable. The great majority of students live in communities such as: Allston, Jamaica Plain, Brighton, Roslindale, West Roxbury, Hyde Park or suburbs such as Brookline, Dedham, Newton, Cambridge, Somerville, to name a few.
Our Library is an information and service referral center designed to support the research needs of the students and faculty. The library maintains a core collection of books, periodicals, audio-visual materials, psychological testing kits, and newsletters. Comprehensive interlibrary loan services, computer services, and online reference databases are also available.

The Dean of Students office is here to help students through any difficulty they may have whether it is academic or personal in nature. Students are advised that they may always seek out assistance from the Dean of Students team where we can either help resolve concerns, or point students towards the most appropriate resource.
The Dr. Leon O. Brenner Center for Psychological Assessment and Consultation at William James College provides comprehensive psychological assessment to address problems of learning and adjustment for children, adolescents and adults. On the Center’s staff are senior psychologists, doctoral students, and post-doctoral fellows who work as a team to provide comprehensive evaluations, jargon-free reports, consultation and advocacy to facilitate the implementation of assessment recommendations.
