North-Eastern Hill University was set up by an Act of Parliament and notified on 19th July 1973. The objectives of the University, as laid down in the act, are "to disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities in such branches of learning as it may deem fit.

The University has two health centres in Shillong; one located in Bijni Complex and the other on the Campus, Umshing. The health centres provide free medical care and medicines to the teaching and administrative staff as well as to the students of the University.
The Department of Sports, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, facilitates Sports activities to the colleges affiliated to NEHU. The department organises sports events in Shillong and Tura Campuses. The events consist of Cricket, Football, Hockey, boxing, Judo, Best Physique, Weight lifting, Athletics, Table Tennis, Badminton, Chess, basketball and Volleyball.

It was a great University , the faculty was very helpful , learning was very much intresting everything worked well. The only disadvantage was that the lab was closed due to high rise of covid cases in the state
At University, I did get opportunities to take part in various Mathematics programmes which helped me to prosper. Mathematics Training Programmes like MTTS being a participant as well as an mentor, did an internship in some areas of Number Theory and Algebra under a Professor of IIT Guwahati. I got help from my University and professors as much as I needed the most. I had been studied my honours subject (Mathematics) with a percentage of 89.75 and my overall all subject having percentage of 73.33. My main motive for getting scholarships is that I wanted to stand in my own feet and to study the subject matter to the deepest of my knowledge.
