History
The Polytechnic Institute of Leiria (IPLeiria) began its activity in 1980 and is present in the Leiria and West region through its five schools, located in the cities of Leiria (School of Education and Social Sciences, School of Technology and Management and School of Health Sciences), Caldas da Rainha (School of Fine Art and Design) and Peniche (School of Tourism and Maritime Technology).
Education
IPLeiria has programmes in the areas of: Art and Design, Entrepreneurial and Juridical Sciences, Education and Communication, Engineering and Technology, Tourism and Health.
Research
IPLeiria has an Institute for Research, Development and Advanced Studies (INDEA); Technology Specialization Training Unit (FOR.CET); Distance Learning Unit (UED); Transfer Technology and Information Center (OTIC).

Housing services
The Social Action Services of the Polytechnic of Leiria have seven Student Residences and a School Hotel , spread over the three campuses - Leiria, Caldas da Rainha and Peniche - in a total of 763 beds .

ICT services
The Computer Services Department (DSI) exercises its action in the field of conservation of computer goods and equipment and of information and communication systems at the service of the Polytechnic of Leiria.
Medical services
Social Action Services provide the academic community of the Polytechnic of Leiria with conditions that guarantee their well-being.
As such, provide, at low cost, consultations General Practice, Gynecology / Family Planning , Dental Medicine, Sports Medicine , Occupational Medicine and Ophthalmology .
Campus life
This region, with a privileged location near the cost, is considered particularly interesting to live, study and work, not only for the diversity of the economical and material resources, but also for the richness and beauty of natural and cultural aspects – the identity of the region.
Sports facilities
The Polytechnic Institute of Leiria gives the students the opportunity to practice a wide range of sports through the sport sector of the Social Services.
This sector is organized in two different areas: leisure and competition. In this last one the Polytechnic of Leiria usually attends National Higher Education Championships organized by the Academic Federation of University Sports (known as FADU).
