RDI Focus Areas and Themes
The areas of focus are modern welfare services and sustainable energy and materials. They are selected with the goal of obtaining nationally and internationally recognised expertise and competence. The selected areas are based on regional, national and international development challenges. We search for solutions to these challenges by meeting the needs of working life through education, multidisciplinary RDI activities and actively operating in competence and development networks.

Student Services is responsible for general student administration and providing services for the students of Karelia University of Applied Sciences. Admission Services also operates as part of Student Services. It is responsible for joint admissions, other student admissions and student admittances. The staff of Student Services will serve and advise you, for example, in issues related to enrolment, right to study, degree certificates and financial aid.
Welcome to the Karelia UAS library, which is open for everyone. We serve the students and personnel of Karelia UAS and other customers. We provide modern facilities and updated scientific and professional collections to support studying, teaching and research.
As a student at Open UAS, you are entitled to use Karelia UAS IT services. You will receive a Karelia UAS user name that enables you to use the following services: email, Moodle learning environment, remote access to library databases, signing in to UAS computers.
Campuses of Karelia University of Applied ScienceKarelia UAS operates in Joensuu on two main campuses. The campuses are multi-field learning and development environments that enable study possibilities across the boundaries of different degree programmes.
There are dozens of sports clubs in Joensuu, everything from martial arts to petanque and from traditional individual level sports to team sports, even on national level. Besides sports club activities, you can do sports in many of the sports centres in the city and in the beautiful nature surrounding Joensuu. If looking for more extreme experiences, you can try sliding on ice with a snowboard and a paraglider, and if looking for peace and quiet, you can cross-country ski.
The university makes various chances for students in vocational studies after having basic theories. Teachers grade fairly and support students.

The accomodation was 220 euro in a shared flat. Food and drinks, and also the services, are quite expensive for someone from central europe. However, the university was offering lunches for 2,40 euro for students in every building. Eating in restaurants was too expensive for me. Other goods like clothes or sport equipment was quite cheap.
