Established in 1991, the Romanian-American University was founded by Professor Ion Smedescu with a view to promote the American educational values (efficient organization, sense of duty, work-ethic, self-respect and respect for others) combined with the solid and rich academic traditions of the Romanian educational system.
RAU has 6 schools (Domestic and International Business, Banking and Finance, Management – Marketing, Computer Science for Business Management, European Economic Studies, Domestic and International Tourism Economy and Law), 2 Bachelor and 4 Master Programs in English, as well as Foundation Year.
There are many academic opportunities for RAU students: exchange study programs and internships abroad, international summer schools, intensive courses taught by international professors, Asian Language courses with native teachers, tourism & aviation courses at the IATA Authorized Training Center, events with international participants, research labs and simulation games.
RAU objectives are to excel into a competitive international research HE market by becoming a world-class research-intensive university.
RAU strategy focuses on consolidating its relationship with practitioners and being oriented to applied research, the common view to promote innovation and entrepreneurship.

RAU has a Research Lab “New Trends & Smart Technologies in Business Administration” organizing scientific research activities.
RAU study programs are designed by both experts in academia and specialists from the business environment, in order to assure that students have the required skills and knowledge after graduation.
Partner companies are constantly involved in the academic and research projects of the university, participating every year at conferences, workshops, seminars, debates, round tables organized by RAU.RAU students have the possibility to complete internships at the partner companies, in Romania or abroad and those with the best results are frequently employed by the companies.
Every year, RAU organizes RAU JOB FAIR, an event gathering companies from different fields (IT, tourism, finance), seeking to recruit students.
The University hosts a Student Club that organizes various events and parties for students, a student magazine and an English classic and popular book library to help students spend free time efficiently.
RAU students can participate to the guided tours offered by the tourism club, in order to discover the history of Bucharest, as well as the local traditions and gastronomy.
RAU organizes international events allowing students to share their own culture and traditions.As RAU students, they can join the RAU theater group or get involved in the activities of the Asian Studies Department (Japanese, Korean or Chinese Language courses, Japanese and Korean Drums courses, Tea Ceremony, calligraphy courses).
The dormitory is a modern tall building with 150 rooms. It is connected to the university, so students don’t even need to go outside to get to classes. Internet connection is available in each room and there is a lounge area with a TV on each floor. There are three and four- people rooms.The canteen is the connection point between the dormitory and the university. It serves traditional Romanian and international food for affordable prices. It also has a lounge area with sofas and TV.
The University has a lecture room with English and Romanian books related to subjects taught at RAU.At the Creative Library Bucharest Inspired by Toyota students can discover specific Japanese elements – traditional & pop-culture. The objects in this library (books, CDs) were donated and everyone is welcome to contribute to the collection.
Created in partnership with Microsoft Corporation, RAU Microsoft Innovation Center offers students the possibility to develop their abilities of working with high technology through the online Microsoft platform, in order to balance academic teaching with the demands of labour market concerning the IT field. The CISCO Academy as well trains professionals in IT.
The University has a medical office where students can get free medical consultation provided by the appointed doctor, as well as psychological assistance.
On campus there is a bank, a chapel, a cafeteria, a coffee shop, a snack bar, a fitness center and a bookstore.
The University is located very close to the biggest park in Bucharest where students can walk, jog, rent a bike or a boat. A few bars and restaurants can be found in the close vicinity of the campus as well.The city offers a lot of museums, buildings and historic places to visit, several parks to go to. Bucharest is also famous for its vibrant nightlife. Students can choose from numerous bars, pubs, clubs, restaurants and cafes in the Old Town which can easily be reached by public transportation or taxi. Bucharest has one of the cheapest taxi services in Europe.
Located on campus, the RAU fitness centre is geared with modern gym equipment, sauna and solarium. Students can play ping pong and Kangoo Jumps and Aerobics classes are also taking place there. RAU students get discounts.
All RAU students also have access to the RAU Sport Center (22000 m2) where they can play tennis, football, basketball or table tennis.The University has a Basketball Team, URAganii, participating every year in the local championship.
CS URA (RAU Students club) is an organization founded by and for RAU Students, with the purpose of creating an enjoyable academic environment. It organizes trainings, workshops, charity events and parties.RAU Tourism Club, “Travel Mates”, mainly organizes sightseeing tours in and outside Bucharest, participates in projects and fairs related to tourism, organizes events and conferences.
The Romanian-American University received the “High Confidence Rating” certification (the best of all possible distinctions) from the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS), which is a full member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and is registered in the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education - EQAR.
