Semmelweis University’s history started in 1769,Not long after, the university moved to Budapest and, once the university settled in its permanent location, a period of great development commenced. The number of departments and clinical beds grew – so much so, in fact, that by 1838 congestion had become so great, that even the Hungarian National Assembly addressed the Medical Faculty’s situation.

  • The Bachelor’s programmes provide students with general knowledge, skills, abilities, professional competencies, and the professional experience necessary for finding employment.
  • The Master’s programs and – for those already holding a degree – the postgraduate specialist training programmes allow students to obtain professional specialisation, a deepened knowledge of the field, and a higher level of qualification.

The “Modern Medical Technologies at Semmelweis University” project yielded outstanding results in four main areas, ensuring our institution a place among the leading research universities:

  • Personalised medicine;
  • Imaging processes and bioimaging: from molecule to the human being;
  • Bio-engineering and nanomedicine;
  • Molecular medicine.

The Semmelweis University Career Centre was brought into being by the University Senate in 2006, with the intent of providing professional assistance to students during and after their university years. The Office’s staff members perform a diverse range of tasks and activities, primarily assisting current and former students through career consultations, trainings, and career fairs. A “Career Development in Health Care” course – unique in Hungarian health care – has been launched under the management of the Career Centre, which promotes the creation of further development paths at the University.

Student Reviews

Good education, teachers can vary.
Anonymous rated 3 out of 5 stars

I’m a part-time student because I’m working. Sometimes teachers don’t really explain and sometimes they are not motivated. Of course there are good teachers as well but I don’t find the education student friendly. Although the subjects are really great.

Crazy Swiss people
Anonymous rated 4 out of 5 stars

I had the chance to study in a Swiss campus of Semmelweis University. I spent there 4 years, getting to know the Swiss reality and life. They were so different from what I expected, they had such different habits from Italians! I got used to have dinner at 7, having a total different approach to the study, walk a lot and share almost everything with my friends. Overall, my...

Review on Semmelweis University’s Doctor of Pharmacy program
Anonymous rated 3 out of 5 stars

The program is well organized even in a global scale, too. The quality of lectures, and how well the professors teach vary very much: some are good, some are poor. The facilities are developing, but I can see more work to be done especially in buildings of Faculty of Pharmacy. Overall, I think this university can prepare me well for my career.
