Semmelweis University’s history started 250 years ago in 1769, when Queen Maria Theresa added a medical faculty to the University of Nagyszombat (now Trnava, Slovakia). Not long after, the university moved first to Buda then to Pest (now Budapest) and, once the university settled in its permanent location, a period of great development commenced.
Semmelweis University is unique among Hungarian universities teaching health sciences. With its 250 years of history, it has amassed an enormous amount of knowledge, and has granted diplomas to over 100,000 students, many of whom are renowned specialists in their respective fields.
The Semmelweis University Career Centre was brought into being by the University Senate in 2006, with the intent of providing professional assistance to students during and after their university years. The Office’s staff members perform a diverse range of tasks and activities, primarily assisting current and former students through career consultations, trainings, and career fairs. A “Career Development in Health Care” course – unique in Hungarian health care – has been launched under the management of the Career Centre, which promotes the creation of further development paths at the University.

Semmelweis University’s Central Library - together with its library units - constitutes one of the largest and most modern medical special collections in Hungary. The Library is currently available in two locations: the Basic Medical Science Centre Branch and the Central Branch located at Mikszáth Kálmán tér 5.
Since its foundation in 1769, Semmelweis University has paid special attention to the continuous development and expansion of its health care services. As a result, the University has grown into one of the largest health care institutions in Hungary today handling 2.5 million cases each year.
Semmelweis University offers a wide range of sporting opportunities for students. Physical education classes are compulsory at most faculties during the first four semesters. The various training sessions (water polo, volleyball, basketball, handball) and optional sports activities (judo, aerobics, yoga, tennis, frisbee, zumba) further add to the variety of options.

The physical therapy course has some amazing teachers that can give us great knowledge, but the facultys organizational skills are terrible, so we had to overcome a lot of unnecessary obstacles in our way. Otherwise the complete course is good.
This is a very nice university with high quality of education. they care about their students and try to help them. the only problem is it's too expensive and my parents can not afford it
