Jiangsu University

Jiangsu University (JSU) was founded by combining the former Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, Zhenjiang Medical College and Zhenjiang Teachers’ College with the approval of the Ministry of Education of China in August, 2001. It has now successfully developed to be a comprehensive teaching and research oriented university with strength of engineering.

About

JSU has 24 schools offering 88 undergraduate programs in 10 academic fields. The university has 13 post-doctoral research stations, 9 primary (or first-level) disciplines for doctoral degrees, 42 doctoral programs, 35 primary academic principles offering master programs and 170 master programs, 26 fields for ME, 2 national key academic disciplines, and 1 national key academic discipline under cultivation. Four disciplines have been ranked as global top 1% in ESI, such as Engineering, Materials Science, Clinical Medicine and Chemistry. According to the Evaluations of China’s Universities in 2015 by China Academy of Management Science, JSU is ranked 55.

In recent years, Jiangsu University has won 5 national awards for teaching achievements. 3 Ph. D dissertations were ranked among Top 100 Ph. D Dissertations in China, and another 5 were nominated for the Top 100. Jiangsu University participated in the Challenge Cup national ex-curricular academic, scientific and technological competition and won Excellent Cup in consecutive four years. The employment rate of the university’s graduates has been over 95%. In recent five years, the university’s total amount of research financial grants has reached over 2.5 billion CNY, 790 million CNY of which is granted by the governments. Jiangsu University has won 8 national awards for sci-tech achievements, 2 Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Awards for Sci-tech Innovation.

The university has established long-term cooperative relationship with 87 universities and educational or research institutions in countries such as America, England, Germany, Australia Austria and Japan and etc.. The Confucius Institute co-built by Jiangsu University and Graz University (Austria) is operating smoothly, and the co-built Chinese-German Language and Culture Center has opened. The cooperative postgraduate program in Engineering Thermophysics between Jiangsu University and Magdeburg University (Germany) and the cooperative undergraduate program in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics between Jiangsu University and Acadia University (USA) have gone smoothly.

Based on the philosophy of “integrating basic research with applied research, scientific research with technology transfer, high-tech development with high-tech industrialization, and technological innovation with mechanism innovation”, Jiangsu University has made considerable achievements in the “11th Five-year Plan” period in the aspects of overall scientific work, the Project of “National Programs”, construction of research platforms and innovation teams, and the capacity to offer social services by virtue of sharing all resources, highlighting advantages, planning everything well and going all out for innovation. Funds of all kinds for scientific research of Jiangsu University since 2006 have added up to RMB 800 million, including RMB 239 million of vertical funds from Chinese government and Jiangsu province government. As a result, scientific achievements of all kinds have been made, including 286 scientific achievement awards of which 5 attain the national level, 1001 patents that are made up of 865 invention patents, 6 international PCT patents, and 2 gold medals for patents of Jiangsu province, the publication of 7623 academic papers of which 3301 are indexed by SCI, EI and ISTP, the publication of 327 monographs, and the winning of the National Scientific Fund for Distinguished Young Scientists in 2008, followed by another in the year of 2009.
