History
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) was established in 1931. It is renowned for engineering, technology, architectural design and medical teaching and research.
Education
NCKU is one of Taiwan’s leading integrated research universities, and has nine colleges covering the fields of Liberal Arts, Sciences, Engineering, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, Management, Medicine, Social Sciences, and Bioscience & Biotechnology. NCKU currently offers 40 undergraduate degree programs, 76 master’s degree programs and 54 doctoral programs. NCKU also has a national-level medical center and established the Research and Service Headquarters (RSH) in 1996, the first of its kind nationwide, which features more than 60 research centers.
Research
The Research and Services Headquarters at NCKU is the first unit of its kind in Taiwan higher education. It integrates school resources to maintain close cooperation with industry and our home city, working through eight cutting-edge research centers to promote academia–industry cooperation for innovation. The aim is to ensure that research results make a real contribution to Taiwan by meeting the needs of both industry and society.

University Ranking
Student services
NCKU offers excellent support for international students, such as the “Buddy-Buddy Program”, which is designed to facilitate international students as they adapt to life in Taiwan. Through the program, students develop a better understanding of the local culture and customs. NCKU provides a free Tutoring Program for certain courses at the undergraduate level and also provides free Chinese language courses for international students in order to have an in-depth understanding of the local life and culture.
Library services
When National Cheng Kung University was established in January, 1931, the NCKU library was also established.In early 1984, the library opened a branch in the College of Medicine. With the increase of the material in the library, the capacity in the main library was far from enough.
Medical services
The NCKU Medical Center is a first class medical center within a comprehensive university in Taiwan. It has outstanding faculty and abundant research resources, and provides exceptional medical training, patient care, and cutting-edge research.
Campus life
NCKU’s main campus is conveniently located in downtown Tainan with its Kuang-Fu campus right adjacent to the east exit of Tainan Railway Station. The school has easy access to transportation networks, especially since the opening of the Shalun rail line linking Taiwan High Speed Rail Tainan Station with downtown Tainan. Having the different colleges together on the main campus facilitates interdisciplinary learning and cooperation to develop competitive multifaceted professionals, while students are able to expand their international perspective by interacting with their peers from diverse ethnic backgrounds and nationalities.
Sports facilities
NCKU offers various sport facilities to keep students engaged and physically fit. We have provided more than 13 kinds of sports facilities, both indoor and outdoor. All of which is provided to the students on the campus.
