An inspiring and practical academic journey

My overall experience studying at the university was deeply enriching and intellectually rewarding. The academic environment fostered strong critical thinking, logical problem-solving, and a structured approach to technical concepts. What I really liked the most was the dedication of the faculty and the emphasis on blending theoretical foundations with practical application. The coursework challenged me to push my limits and develop robust analytical skills that are directly applicable to the modern tech industry. If there is one area that could be improved, it would be the expansion of collaborative tech labs and more real-world industry partnership projects to give students even more hands-on exposure before graduation. Overall, it has been a transformative chapter that prepared me thoroughly for advanced professional pursuits.

Where Field Meets Future

My time pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Archaeology and Geography at the University of Ghana was one of the most rewarding and hands on academic journeys I’ve had. In Archaeology, we conducted excavations across various regions of Ghana every semester, giving us real fieldwork experience rather than just classroom theory. The most memorable of these was our excavation at Axim’s Fort San Antonio, where history came alive right under our hands. Throughout this journey, Prof. Sammy Gyam was an incredible mentor patiently guiding and counseling us through the technical and physical demands of fieldwork. On the Geography side, the program balanced theory with equally valuable practical exposure, guided by Prof. Ebenezer Forkuo Amankwa, whose mentorship shaped how we approached fieldwork and analysis. We visited the Volta River Authority (VRA) to understand how it manages its operations, and the Ghana National Fire Service, where we learned to identify disaster mitigation measures that help reduce risks and minimize the impact of emergencies. We also explored urban planning and GIS applications, learning how spatial data and mapping tools can guide land-use decisions and inform policy strategies that reduce environmental and disaster risk within communities. Overall, this program shaped me into someone who values fieldwork, critical observation, and practical problem-strategy skills I now carry beyond the classroom, thanks to the guidance of both Prof. Gyam and Prof. Amankwa.

Great Quality

I loved the vibrant campus life and the modern library facilities. However, the student housing application process could be streamlined for better efficiency.
