History
The ‘Gabriele d’Annunzio’ University, established in 1965 as a ‘Libera Università’ (non state-owned university), became state-owned in 1982.
Education
The university is formed from a variety of institutions which include thirteen academic departments organised into two schools.
Research
Research is a component of each academic division, receiving funds for its scientific investigation from national and international institutions. ‘Gabriele d’Annunzio’ University is a member of the Netval Research Universities Network, AlmaLaurea, and the Interuniversity Consortium of Northeastern Italy for Automatic Computing.

- D'Annunzio University's faculty has included scholars such as linguist and politician Tullio De Mauro, teleologist Vincenzo Fagiolo, writers Antonio Porta and Carlo Vecce, architect Giorgio Grassi, athlete Pietro Mennea, biologist Alberto Oliverio, musicologist Diego Carpitella, historian John Foot, psychiatrist Rita El Khayat, lawyers Flavia Lattanzi and Franco Gaetano Scoca, philosopher Sergio Cotta, economist Fabio Fortuna, and physician Giovanni Gasbarrini.
- Many graduates have been notable in the political arena, including deputy Maurizio Acerbo and mayor Luciano D'Alfonso. Other notable alumni include journalist Giampiero Catone, writer Giada Trebeschi, and painter Luciano de Liberato, among others.

University Ranking
Housing services
The Company Rights to Education of Chieti and Pescara, contributes economically with a housing portion of the scholarship awarded to beneficiaries resident students, the expense is incurred by them and resulting from regular lease. Additional contributions are guaranteed to students suitable non-scholarship holders.
Library services
There are 4 Libraries that are part of the University: Library of the University Digital, Library Medical and Scientific, Library complex of Pescara, Library "Ettore Paratore" - Chieti.
Medical services
The Universita ' "G. d'Annunzio" has activated, in agreement with the ASL of Chieti, a service of health care and preventive medical care aimed at University students.
Campus life
The University Departments are two: the Campus of Chieti and Pescara Polo. It 'also the computerized University' Leonardo da Vinci ', based in Torrevecchia Teatina.
The Campus is at the forefront for facilities, equipment and training. In an urban and metropolitan context characterized by a high degree of receptivity and livability, offers various opportunities for leisure: recreational, sporting and cultural.
Sports facilities
Developed with funds from CUS, the sports centre includes a gym and two outdoor tennis courts, a single complex that looks like a large court, 69 x 41.50 m, enclosed by brick masonry. The location chosen, on two spacious terraces at the top of the area, near the entrance to the campus through Via dei Vestini, is easily accessible also by external athletes and the public.
D'Annunzio University is accredited by the European University Association and a number of additional professional and educational accrediting agencies, including the European Network of Physiotherapy in Higher Education, the International Long Term Ecological Research Network, and the Emblema Network.
