Marbella Design Academy opened in 1995. In 2008 the Academy moved into its current purpose designed building in Monda, In 2009 the Academy gained institution state recognition from the Spanish Ministry of Education. In June 2015, the first students on the validated programmes graduated and were awarded BA Hons degrees from our UK partner university.
Our mission is to provide a stimulating and complete design education that lives up to the latest market demands, leading to a rewarding and well sought after profession. Students are taught in a family-like atmosphere, that is energetic, creative and inspiring. We aim to develop all the necessary skills needed to solve the wide variety of real-life design challenges that are faced by professional designers today. Our aims are to support and develop individual creativity and nurture artistic skills. We also prepare the students for the increasing demands of the market with respect to quality of presentation, style, aesthetics and psychology relating to the design environment. Students are encouraged to collaborate and experiment with their creativity, in either small groups or with one-on-one tutoring sessions.
Whilst we pride ourselves at being able to offer high levels of student / tutor attention, students are encouraged to be self-motivated and self –sufficient in their learning. Students are expected to research their projects, using a variety of sources and inspiration. Independent study days offer opportunities to undertake individual research and to ensure that students can be self sufficient and independent in their learning. Situated in the culturally rich country of Spain, students at Marbella Design Academy have opportunities for sites visits in order to research projects and from which to take creative inspiration.
Our graduate students have an employment rate of more than 90%, a clear indication of the high quality and standard of education they have received. Many return to their own country with a qualification and a high level of design skills that are much sought after in their own country. The UK Bachelor of Art Honours degree awarded by our UK partner university after graduation from Marbella Design Academy is recognized and respected worldwide. Our students produce a professional standard portfolio to take with them and to present to prospective employers, showcasing their work and creativity.

The majority of our students (80%) live in the charming town of Monda, a typical white village of Southern Spain. The Academy is only a 10 minute walk from the town centre and there is no need for students to have a car. Students rent fully-furnished flats or apartments directly with the landlords. Most of the accommodation is equipped with wifi. Many students share or live within close vicinity of other student flats. The cost of rented accommodation in Monda is comparatively cheap, as is the cost of living and students can chose to eat in one of the many bars and restaurants in Monda or at the Academy Restaurant.
Marbella Design Academy has a small library from which students may borrow publications. The majority of library resources are found on-line.
The Academy is fully wifi´d.which the students may access for free. Students are required to bing with them their own laptops. Tutors will advise on what software is required and can help in installing programmes.The IT office is able to provide first line problem solving support. Printing, scanning and photocopying is available for free.
Off campus – the nearest Medical Centre is in the centre of the local village of Monda, only 10 minutes away. Non-European students will need private medical insurance and there are a number of approved private hospitals and medical practices in Marbella. European students can access the Spanish Health Care System using the EHIC.
Marbella Design Academy is located within its own purpose designed and constructed building. The building is constructed in a typical Andalusian style, complimenting the surrounding Spanish architecture and nature. The building is of approximately 2000 m2 constructed area, on a 10.000 m2 private nature park. The building has a lift, ramps and facilities for disabled people.

With possibly the best climate in Europe and on average more than 330 sunny days per year, the outdoor leisure possibilities in Southern Spain are endless.The stunning countryside surrounding Monda and the Academy offers plenty of choices for rural activities such as hiking, running and horse riding, whilst in Monda town itself students can participate in football, basketball and many other outdoor activities. Additionally there are a number sports clubs and fitness centres in Coín, the next town only 10 minutes away.The list of local activities and facilities is endless.
Every registered student receives a Marbella Design Academy student card. Each course has a student representative to represent on student issues and concerns. The Student Social Reps are supported in any activities that they might like to organize for the students such as BBQs and Christmas shopping trips. Marbella Design Academy is a small university and students coming from a wide variety of backgrounds tend to integrate into huge variety of local clubs and societies befitting their interests.
