History
The opening of the University of Basutoland, Bechuanaland and Swaziland (UBBS) on January 1, 1964 was the outcome of an agreement reached in the mid-1962 between the High Commission Territories and the Oblate of Mary Immaculate of Pius XII Catholic University, Roma, Lesotho.

Student services
The Campus Services is a department within Finance and Administration division with a mission to support the University Vision by creating a conducive learning and teaching environment through the provision of professional, effective and efficient services to the University community.For ease of management, the Department is split into four sections

Housing services
The Department of Student Welfare is responsible over accommodation matters at UB. Most of the information on accommodation processes can be found in the Accommodation manual. The halls of residence at UB are divided into undergraduate and graduate halls of residence, with the latter housing only undergraduates and the former dedicated to graduate students. The capacity for the halls of residence is 4130 beds for undergraduates and 240 beds for graduates.

The University Library, which is an oasis of information resources and services, whose mandate is to support learning, teaching and research.
ICT services
The Department of Information Technology (IT) provides Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) services to support teaching, learning, research and administrative business activities of the University. The IT Department serves both staff and students of the University.
Sports facilities
Campus amenities, include an Olympic-sized swimming pool, an entertainment arena, and sports courts (basketball, tennis, handball, netball, volleyball). The university is adjacent to the National Stadium, which is available for university use. The practice fields outside the stadium are the location for university intramural sports.
