Arcada University of Applied Sciences was established in Helsinki in 1996. Arcada originates from three different institutions: The Swedish Commercial College, Swedish Institute of Technology, Helsinki and Helsinki Swedish College of Nursing and Health Care. Arcada University of Applied Sciences moved into the Arcada building in Arabianranta in 2004 and so created the foundation for one campus.
With some 2 400 degree students at our growing campus, we offer studies at both bachelor's and master's levels, as well as further studies and open studies, in a relaxed and charming international environment.
At Arcada we believe that there is more to studying than just attending courses and taking exams. We want you to develop your academic and professional skills, and discover your potential by actively participating in the varied activities of a dynamic community composed of students and staff from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
Arcada provides an innovative environment with a focus on research-based innovation in the business and public sectors, and with a strong interaction between teaching and research.
At Arcada research is conducted within the following priority areas: culture, functional materials, business development and information analysis, and patient safety, health promotion and social inclusion. Regardless of the field, the starting point is the same – to identify the needs of the surrounding world and to assess how our research will have the greatest possible positive impact on society.
Our task is to give you an education that prepares you for expert positions in your field. You will therefore get useful contacts in the labour market whilst still studying, and for many students, these contacts and the traineeship periods which are part of the studies function as a springboard to their future careers.Did you know that those who have a degree from a university of applied sciences are very sought-after in the labour market? Most of our former students find jobs which correspond to their degrees within a year after leaving Arcada.

In the oldest building, which is a mere six-years-old, you can choose between one, two, three and four room apartments.
These homey and modern apartments are in constant demand, and there is one thing on which all students living on campus can agree: they get value for money. The prices are competitive, to say the least.
The primary task of the Arcada Library is to provide educational and professional development resource material for students and staff. The library is also open to the public, and some of its resource material can be accessed electronically via Libguides or Arcada Finna.

The Arcada campus, built in 2004, is quite unique in Helsinki as it is a complete campus, with the university of applied sciences, student housing and the student union house close by. The campus is perfectly situated combining its own personal milieu with excellent transportation to the city centre and onwards. You reach the city centre in 20 minutes by bus or tram, and the closest metro stop isn’t far away either. Next to the student housing is a shopping mall, which offers everything you need in your daily life and the surrounding area offers excellent opportunities for leisure activities.
The beautiful Arabia beach is just behind the building. A gym, tennis courts and a football pitch are also nearby. The local jogging tracks are excellent and also allow you to admire cows and sheep in their meadows as you work out. In the winter, you don’t have to think twice about strapping on ice skates because the rink is just around the corner.
Arcada Student Union – ASK works for the interests of all Arcada students. ASK was founded in 1997. Since August 2005 the student unions in the Universities of Applied Sciences have had an official position and a legislated duty to promote student’s interests.
ASK has over 1000 members and supervise all Arcada students’ interest through representing students in decision-making bodies in Arcada, as well as though actively participating in the activities of SAMOK.
ASK is located in the Cor-house, which is the students’ own house. Here you can also find our Board and staff if you feel like dropping by and say hello.

Arcada UAS has been chosen as the best UAS in Finland in a couple of years now, so it’s a good place to study at. The teacher are friendly and helpful, and the classes are usually small so it’s easy to ask and start discussions during class. The campus is small, and there are cheap student dorms right next to the university building.
Helsinki is a very beautiful city in an extremely developed country in technology and economy. However, it still keeps the beauty of culture and history as can be seen easily through the buildings and architectures.
