From Year 1, you get hands-on practical experience in our labs. Later on in your course, you’ll have the opportunity to explore real human specimens in our anatomy laboratory classes.
Biomedical Science (Hons) at University of Sussex is flexible, and you can tailor your degree to your interests and career aspirations. You’ll be inspired by our modules exploring topics such as cancer, infectious diseases and vaccine development, and genomics and bioinformatics.
Careers
You can go on to graduate from medical school or to the expanding Physician Associate programmes. You can also pursue postgraduate study, leading to academic and applied medical research in the pharmaceutical industry, hospitals, universities and research institutes.

General requirements
- A-level: ABB
- A-levels must include Biology and Chemistry. You will also need to pass the separate science practical assessment. If you are not able to take the science practical assessment, applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Subjects: Higher Levels must include both Biology and Chemistry, with a grade of at least 5.
- International Baccalaureate: 32 points overall from the full IB Diploma;
- European Baccalaureate: Overall result of at least 77%.
· Evidence of existing academic ability in both Biology and Chemistry is essential (normally with a final grade of at least 8.0).
