Overview
Guided by market surveys, needs and stakeholders’ assessments, this Architectural Studies and Architecture programme offered by the University of Nairobi is tailored to nurture and inspire graduates to meet the needs of the Kenyan, East African region as well as the global built environment.
The programme aims to develop in each student the ability to sensitise problems, evaluate and synthesise the student’s understanding into design solutions appropriate to their context and thus produce quality graduates in the built environment.
This is done through face-to-face teaching as well as through open, distance and electronic learning (ODeL) mode of study (ICT based delivery), practical exposure/industrial attachment, mentoring and extra-curricula activities conducted in a healthy, secure and safe environment.
Objectives
At the end of this programme, the learner should be able to:
- Produce creative and innovative solutions that promote sustainable development goals in the construction industry.
- Generate quality consultancy in the field of Architecture.
- Create relevant, dynamic, market-driven academic research projects.
- Participate in extension and community services as well as promote the profession of Architecture at local, regional and global levels.

General requirements
A student must satisfy the prescribed University of Nairobi requirements for admission to the Bachelor of Architectural Studies/Bachelor of Architecture (B.A.S./B..Arch.) by having any of the following qualifications:
K.C.S.E. with a mean grade C+ or equivalent and in addition, a candidate must also have attained a minimum grade of C+ at the K.C.S.E. examination from a recognized secondary institution in the following subject clusters:
- English or Kiswahili
- Mathematics
- Physics or Chemistry or Biology or Physical Science or Biological Sciences
- Art and Design or Drawing and Design, or Building Construction, or Music, or Economics, or Geography, or Social Education and Ethics, or History and Government.
