Overview

The BSc in Biology at University of Zurich offers a general education in natural sciences, knowledge of all branches of research in biology and the ability to think and work methodically and scientifically. 

The institutes of our division of Biology, together with the medical-biological institutes of the Faculty of Medicine, offer an extremely wide range of biological specializations. Further, study structures in specialized studies of biology (as of the 5th semester) between the University and ETHZ are fully compatible. This renders Zurich one of the world's top locations for studying biology. 

Career options:

With a BSc in biology, graduates have the necessary theoretical and practical qualifications for the Master's degree course in one of the consecutive Master's concentrations in biology, and depending on the choice of optional core modules, for the Master's program in biomedicine, biochemistry and specialized Master programs such as biostatistics or environmental science. The first degree of BSc in biology is also suitable for a start in all types of training and education programs of private and public companies.

General Requirements

  • A non-Swiss upper secondary school-leaving certificate gained in a signatory state to the Lisbon Recognition Convention that corresponds only partly to a Swiss upper secondary school-leaving certificate in terms of the educational content and duration of education
  • Complementary Examination set by the Swiss Higher Education Institutions (ECUS)
  • Anyone who holds a non-Swiss upper secondary school-leaving certificate gained in a state which has not signed the Lisbon Recognition Convention must generally also pass the complementary examination set by the Swiss higher education institutions (ECUS) to be admitted to a Bachelor’s study program.
