What are the relationships between human beings and natural space? Global change, neoliberalisation, virtual worlds, environmental changes and urbanisation are challenges that concern Geography. At the Department of Geography in Zurich, students learn about socially relevant topics in Switzerland and the global south, in the high mountains, in metropolitan areas and in cyberspace.

Key facts

The Geography course at University of Zurich provides students with a basic education in the various thematic areas. In addition, the acquired knowledge is applied to Switzerland and students are introduced to scientific texts in small groups. After the first year of the study program, students can choose a minor or individual courses from a range of courses offered by the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich to complement the compulsory lectures.

Apart from a non-Swiss upper secondary school-leaving certificate, admission to all faculties may also be granted to holders of one of the following higher education degrees:

Diploma (at least Bachelor's degree) from a state-accredited non-Swiss university that is recognized by the University of Zurich as equivalent to the corresponding Swiss diploma.

Diploma (Bachelor's degree) from a non-Swiss university of applied sciences or university of teacher education in a signatory state to the Lisbon Recognition Convention that is recognized by the University of Zurich as equivalent to the corresponding Swiss diploma.
