Overview

In the Cell Biology with a Modern Language (Hons) course offered at The University of Manchester you will study aspects of biological sciences such as biochemistry and molecular biology to explore the structure and function of cells.

You will also consider how cell diversity arises and how cells co-operate and communicate with each other in normal tissues and in developing embryos.

We offer French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese and Mandarin for the language component of the course, which includes a year abroad on a research placement.

Career opportunities

Graduates from modern language courses are extremely desirable to employers who require significant relevant work experience. In the growing field of international bioscience research collaborations, graduates with a good command of a foreign language are at a distinct advantage.

Around one-third of graduates work in scientific research and development, which may require significant postgraduate study, usually a PhD.

The rest of our graduates go into a diverse range of careers, including teaching or communicating science, as well as careers unrelated to biological sciences including management, finance, marketing and the civil service.

Some of our graduates progress into laboratory-based careers in clinical or technical roles that do not involve research.

Accreditation

This course has Advanced Accreditation from the  Royal Society of Biology , which recognises academic excellence in the biosciences and highlights degrees that educate the research and development leaders and innovators of the future.
