Overview
Manchester is a great place to begin your tourism career. And with our links to organisations like Visit Manchester and Manchester Airport, there are plenty of opportunities to connect with the industry locally.
Experience the sector
Lectures are just one part of your education. Throughout the International Tourism Management (Hons) degree from Manchester Metropolitan University, you’ll find new ways to broaden your knowledge.
Find inspiration on field trips to destinations nearby, like Blackpool, or further afield, like New York (optional, extra cost). Develop new skills or volunteer for a worthwhile cause on our Rise programme. Or spend a year experiencing a different culture or working environment by studying abroad or going on placement.
The latest thinking
Our international teaching team have a wide range of backgrounds in the sector. They’re members of industry associations, active in research, and many have years of professional experience.
But there’s more. Not only will we help you develop the right skills to work anywhere, we can help you master a new language too. You’ll be able to communicate with the locals and give employers a compelling reason to hire you over other candidates.
Career
With your broad knowledge of the sector and your practical skills, you’ll be a valuable addition to any tourism organisation. You could design dream holidays, promote incredible attractions, or inspire people to visit a destination. There are opportunities in other areas too, whether that’s working in HR, starting your own business, or carrying on your studies as a postgraduate.
If you study a specialist area like digital marketing, you could turn your expertise into a career. Or maybe you’ll be inspired by your placement or study abroad year. There are also exciting emerging areas to explore like ecotourism.
How about setting up your own business? The University has facilities that can support your startup to become the next big thing in the travel industry.
