Sociology American University of Central Asia

Overview

The Program in Sociology offered at The American University of Central Asia currently provides students with a solid foundation in sociological research and theory and prepares graduates for work in a variety of academic and professional fields. 

Of the three departments in Kyrgyzstan that offer a degree in sociology, the B.A. program in Sociology at AUCA is the only one that offers western-style professionalism and instruction and encourages critical thinking among its students.

Mission and Vision

• The mission of the B.A. program in Sociology is to create a student-centered learning environment in which faculty and students are engaged in critical social inquiry dedicated to understand and address social problems and inequalities in global, institutional, and interpersonal social relations.

•  We are dedicated to expand, reflect, share, and apply social knowledge in its many forms. As teachers, we develop sociological imaginations and critical thinking in our students by providing them training on an array of social theories and methods, and by exposing them to a diversity of the subject areas in sociology and substantive educational experiences.
