Undergraduate study at The Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS) 

SAMS is a world class scientific research centre and Scotland's premier independent marine research organisation. We have taught an undergraduate degree programme for over a decade. We currently deliver two honours degree programmes through the University of the Highlands and Islands:

  • BSc (Hons) Marine Science

  • BSc (Hons) Marine Science with Arctic Studies

Our unique rural location near Oban and active research facilites offer students an unbeatable opportunity to learn about and study the marine environment and how it works.

BSc Marine Science  (Hons)

This four-year course is Scotland's only multidisciplinary course in marine science, integrating the studies of marine biology, physical and chemical oceanography and marine geology and leading to a rounded understanding of the marine system. Students also gain a diverse range of numerical, technical, analytical, field sampling, time management and communication skills which make them highly employable.

Three Highers at a minimum of BBC. At least two of these should be from the following list of relevant academic subjects.

BA (Hons) Literature requires Higher English at C or above (plus one Higher from the relevant subjects list)
