Overview
Creative and Professional Writing at Kent is your chance to develop your voice as a writer while exploring the many ways stories shape the world around us.
You’ll study contemporary and historical writing alongside your own creative practice, experimenting across forms, genres, and media. Whether you’re interested in fiction, poetry, screen and stage writing, creative non-fiction, journalism, digital storytelling or publishing, you’ll be encouraged to take creative risks and refine your craft as you discover writing that inspires you most.
Workshops are at the heart of the course. You're given opportunities to share work, receive feedback and grow as part of a supportive creative community. Alongside developing your writing, you’ll explore the social, cultural, and ethical questions that shape literature and storytelling today, from identity and representation to technology, protest and global perspectives.
Our flexible programme allows you to shape your degree around your interests and ambitions. You might write a screenplay, produce a poetry collection, create a podcast or digital narrative, edit a literary journal, develop a portfolio of journalism or work towards publishing your own creative project.
By the time you graduate, you’ll have built a substantial portfolio of original work as well as valuable professional skills in communication, editing, collaboration, research, and project development. Whether you want to work in publishing, journalism, media, marketing, education, the creative industries, or continue into further study, our Creative and Professional Writing degree will help you develop the confidence, creativity and adaptability to shape your future as a writer.
