Chemistry
The main aims of this programme are to help you develop a broad and balanced appreciation of the core areas of chemistry: inorganic, organic, physical and analytical chemistry, as well as basic knowledge in macromolecular chemistry, colloids, solid-fluid and fluid-fluid interfaces, environmental chemistry, photochemistry and radiochemistry.
Mathematics
Mathematics underlies the pursuit of every scientific endeavour as it equips you with the necessary body of knowledge and competences. Most of the Mathematics study-units in the first two years of the degree are compulsory. In the third year, students are asked to choose a stream from four available options.
The four options are Graph Theory and Combinatorics, Functional Analysis and Topology, Applied Mathematics, and Biomathematics.

The Chemistry and Mathematics (Hons) course offered by provides you with the necessary academic background for a chemistry career in industrial and teaching environments and fulfils the requirements for postgraduate studies at Masters or Doctoral level in chemistry and related subjects.

Other requirements
General requirements
- The General Entry Requirements are the Matriculation Certificate and a pass at grade 5 or better or at SEC Level 3 in the Secondary Education Certificate examinations in English Language, Maltese and Mathematics.
- The Matriculation Certificate comprises six subjects and is awarded if students obtain a certain number of points including passes in a language, a science subject and a humanistic subject as well as a pass in a subject entitled ‘Systems of Knowledge’. Two of the six subjects must be at Advanced Level, three others at Intermediate Level and Systems of Knowledge.
- A pass at Advanced Level at Grade C or better in Chemistry and a pass at Intermediate Level at Grade C or better in either Physics or Pure Mathematics.
- An Advanced Level pass at Grade C or better in Pure Mathematics.
