Italian

Being an important historical country, it is inevitable that it has been influential in a variety of ways.

During the Italian and Linguistics course offered by University of Malta, they will broaden your literary horizons with a keen focus on Dante Alighieri's Epic poetry, along with other notable Roman and Italian figures who have contributed to its national literature.

Apart from studying modern and contemporary Italian literature in its visual mediums, they will also refine your morphological, syntactical and lexical abilities in the target language. They also encourage you to participate in the Erasmus+ mobility programme for a diversified and multicultural academic experience.

Applicants wishing to join the part-time mode must submit their application as full-time, and then include a note in the comments box of the application form, denoting their preference to be considered for the part-time option. Such requests will be considered by the Board of the Faculty.

Linguistics

The undergraduate programme of study in Linguistics will give you an academic perspective of Maltese and global linguistics.

During the course they will provide you with knowledge on the multifaceted qualities of linguistics, ranging from sociolonguistics, psycholinguistics and Maltese sign language, to applied linguistics, Python programming, Stylistics and the tripartite influence of discourse, ideology and power.

They also encourage you to participate in our Erasmus+ mobility programme, as they believe that a multicultural and diversified international experience will deliver a more holistic and beneficial academic journey.

Careers

As a graduate of this programme of study you will be employable, both locally and internationally, as a translator, journalist, writer, interpreter, historian, editor, diplomat, publisher, researcher, industrial relations consultant, human resources specialist, archivist, linguist, librarian and as a cultural consultant.

General requirements

The General Entry Requirements are the Matriculation Certificate and a pass at grade 5 or better or at SEC Level 3 in the Secondary Education Certificate examinations in English Language, Maltese and Mathematics.

The Matriculation Certificate comprises six subjects and is awarded if students obtain a certain number of points including passes in a language, a science subject and a humanistic subject as well as a pass in a subject entitled ‘Systems of Knowledge’. Two of the six subjects must be at Advanced Level, three others at Intermediate Level and Systems of Knowledge.

If you pursued your secondary education outside Malta, the University would accept comparable qualifications, provided that the required mix of subjects and levels would is comparable to the Matriculation Certificate.

An Advanced or Intermediate Level pass at Grade C or better in Italian.
