Overview
History
During the History and Maltese course offered by University of Malta, apart from learning about local and national history through social, economic, warfare and other perspectives, they will also provide you with a wholistic historic lens of Western, European and Non-European countries.
By learning history on an academic level, you will possess a deep appreciation and a heightened sense of awareness of contemporary international and local affairs through your firm grasp of historic patterns, events and foundations.
They also encourage you to participate in the Erasmus+ programme, as they believe that a multicultural and diversified learning experience will give you a better learning experience.
Applicants wishing to join the part-time mode must submit their application as full-time, and then include a note in the comments box of the application form, denoting their preference to be considered for the part-time option. Such requests will be considered by the Board of the Faculty.
Maltese
The programme of study in Maltese is an opportune course to provide you with an academic perspective on the national first language and mother-tongue of Malta.
During the course you will learn about the linguistic, phonetic, morphologic, syntactic and literary qualities of Maltese, in conjunction with external features such as history, culture and society.
Through a chronological lens of how both Maltese language and literature have developed throughout the years, they will instil within you a deep appreciation for the country's history and its contemporary important status as Mediterranean and active country.
Careers
As a graduate of this programme of study you will be employable, both locally and internationally, as an archivist, heritage manager, museum curator or education officer, academic researcher, policy officer, information officer, human resources officer and as a broadcast journalist.
If you are interested in furthering your education, or are considering an academic profession, then they encourage you to enrol in one of the local postgraduate courses for a holistic and honed educational experience.

Other requirements
General requirements
- The General Entry Requirements are the Matriculation Certificate and a pass at grade 5 or better or at SEC Level 3 in the Secondary Education Certificate examinations in English Language, Maltese and Mathematics.
- The Matriculation Certificate comprises six subjects and is awarded if students obtain a certain number of points including passes in a language, a science subject and a humanistic subject as well as a pass in a subject entitled ‘Systems of Knowledge’. Two of the six subjects must be at Advanced Level, three others at Intermediate Level and Systems of Knowledge.
- If you pursued your secondary education outside Malta, the University would accept comparable qualifications, provided that the required mix of subjects and levels would is comparable to the Matriculation Certificate.
- An Advanced Level pass in History.
- An Advanced Level pass at Grade C or better in Maltese.
