Overview
Geography
During the History of Art and Geography course offered by University of Malta, you will learn concepts and theories ranging from populations, cartography, and biogeographic and oceanographic processes, to geology, degradation, human geography and Marine management, to name a few.
They also encourage you to participate in the Erasmus+ mobility programme for a multicultural and diversified learning experience.
Applicants wishing to join the part-time mode must submit their application as full-time, and then include a note in the comments box of the application form, denoting their preference to be considered for the part-time option. Such requests will be considered by the Board of the Faculty.
History of Art
In this comprehensive course offered by the Department of Art and Art History, you will be equipped with the academic discipline of Art History and fully engage with the rich and wide-ranging narratives of European art, from Antiquity to the Contemporary.
You will explore cultural, religious, social, and economic contexts; delve into critical, theoretical, and philosophical discussions; and study the techniques of various artists. Throughout the course, you'll develop skills in connoisseurship and gain a deeper understanding of artworks within their multifaceted contexts. You’ll benefit from the Department’s expertise in areas such as Medieval and Renaissance Art, Baroque Art, Architecture, Visual Culture, Decorative Arts, Nineteenth-Century Art, and Modern and Contemporary Art.
The course is further enriched by an annual study tour to European cities and regular guest lectures from international scholars and academics on specialized topics. If you continue with your Honours, you will have the opportunity to carry out a research-based dissertation of your choice.
Careers
As a graduate of this course you will be employable in a number of careers, both locally or internationally, as a cartographer, social researcher, commercial surveyor, development surveyor, town planner, geographical information systems officer, nature conservation officer, and environmental consultant.

Other requirements
General requirements
- The General Entry Requirements are the Matriculation Certificate and a pass at grade 5 or better or at SEC Level 3 in the Secondary Education Certificate examinations in English Language, Maltese and Mathematics.
- The Matriculation Certificate comprises six subjects and is awarded if students obtain a certain number of points including passes in a language, a science subject and a humanistic subject as well as a pass in a subject entitled ‘Systems of Knowledge’. Two of the six subjects must be at Advanced Level, three others at Intermediate Level and Systems of Knowledge.
- If you pursued your secondary education outside Malta, the University would accept comparable qualifications, provided that the required mix of subjects and levels would is comparable to the Matriculation Certificate.
