French

During the French and Spanish and Latin American Studies course offered by University of Malta, they will instil within you a deep appreciation towards the language in both a linguistic and Literary perspective, as they will help you refine and hone your spoken, auditory and reading prowess in the language.

By understanding the influence that the language and nation has had on an international level through the eyes of authors, poets, and countries, you will be more au courante with the history that the contemporary country holds onto and upholds. They also encourage you to participate in the Erasmus+ mobility programme for a multicultural and diversified learning journey.

Applicants wishing to join the part-time mode must submit their application as full-time, and then include a note in the comments box of the application form, denoting their preference to be considered for the part-time option. Such requests will be considered by the Board of the Faculty.

Spanish and Latin American Studies

The undergraduate course in Spanish and Latin American Studies, they will provide you with an academic lens of the history, literature and development of the respective languages and countries.

By learning about the culture, key figures and historical periods and progress as recalled through their literature, you will acquire an intricate and deeper understanding and appreciation of the language, its people and the country's current stance and contribution in a national and international manner.

They will also refine your linguistic abilities and thus become more proficient in the language use. They will also encourage you to participate in the Erasmus+ mobility programme for a multicultural and diverse academic journey.

Careers

As a French graduate, you will have a number of local and international career paths available.

These professions include; translator, archivist, author, community worker, immigration officer, travel agent, researcher, public policy analyst, speech writer, journalist, mediator, non-profit administrator, editor, cultural interpreter, community worker and paralegal.

General requirements

The General Entry Requirements are the Matriculation Certificate and a pass at grade 5 or better or at SEC Level 3 in the Secondary Education Certificate examinations in English Language, Maltese and Mathematics.

The Matriculation Certificate comprises six subjects and is awarded if students obtain a certain number of points including passes in a language, a science subject and a humanistic subject as well as a pass in a subject entitled ‘Systems of Knowledge’.

Two of the six subjects must be at Advanced Level, three others at Intermediate Level and Systems of Knowledge.If you pursued your secondary education outside Malta, the University would accept comparable qualifications, provided that the required mix of subjects and levels would is comparable to the Matriculation Certificate.

An Advanced Level pass at Grade C or better in French.

An Advanced Level pass at Grade C or better in Spanish.
