Classics

During your Classics and Music Studies course of studies offered by University of Malta, you will be able to have a basic understanding of the Greek and Latin languages and read key texts in their respective original languages.

You will be able to understand the influence that this ancient world has had on the contemporary one, while also enriching your cultural and historic mindset by participating in interdisciplinary action. You are also encouraged to participate in the Erasmus+ mobility period, for a multicultural and diversified learning experience.

Music Studies

The programme of studies in Music Studies will provide you with the possibility to study music together with another secondary area as subsidiary. As a B.A. student, you will follow two areas of study during the first year, but if you qualify and wish to proceed to the honours track, then you may continue with one area of study (in this case, music), in addition to a limited number of credits in the subsidiary area to be taken during the second year.

During the course you will follow a range of theoretical, historical and practical study-units in music. You are also encouraged to participate in an Erasmus+ mobility programme, as we believe a multicultural and international learning experience will provide a holistic academic journey.

Careers

Upon successfully completing this course, you will have a variety of career opportunities where you will be able to demonstrate your knowledge in the field. Careers, both locally and abroad, can be as an archivist, barrister, editorial assistant, heritage manager, museum or gallery curator, market researcher, Higher education lecturer and media.

If you are interested in furthering your studies or would like to pursue an academic career, then they encourage you to enrol in a postgraduate course that the University offers for a more refined and holistic learning experience.

General requirements

The General Entry Requirements are the Matriculation Certificate and a pass at grade 5 or better or at SEC Level 3 in the Secondary Education Certificate examinations in English Language, Maltese and Mathematics.

The Matriculation Certificate comprises six subjects and is awarded if students obtain a certain number of points including passes in a language, a science subject and a humanistic subject as well as a pass in a subject entitled ‘Systems of Knowledge’. Two of the six subjects must be at Advanced Level, three others at Intermediate Level and Systems of Knowledge.

Applicants shall undertake an interview and an audition. Applicants with at least an Intermediate level pass at Grade C or better in Music shall be exempted from both the interview and audition.
