Overview
During the Linguistics with Dance Studies (Hons) course offered by University of Malta, they will provide you with knowledge on the multifaceted qualities of linguistics, ranging from sociolonguistics, psycholinguistics and Maltese sign language, to applied linguistics, Python programming, Stylistics and the tripartite influence of discourse, ideology and power. In your final year, you may have the chance to apply your refined linguistic knowledge by conducting a research-based dissertation of your choice.
They also encourage you to participate in the Erasmus+ mobility programme, as they believe that a multicultural and diversified international experience will deliver a more holistic and beneficial academic journey.
The communication and academic skills programme complements students’ main course of study. It introduces them to writing and presenting as situated within academic contexts sensitive to specific disciplines and develops their competences for future careers.
Applicants wishing to join the part-time mode must submit their application as full-time, and then include a note in the comments box of the application form, denoting their preference to be considered for the part-time option. Such requests will be considered by the Board of the Faculty.
Careers
As a graduate of this course you will be employable, both locally and foreign, as a linguist, lexicographer, technical writer, forensic linguist, accent coach, translator, copywriter, interpreter, editor, language therapist and as a computational linguist.
If you are interested in furthering your studies, or are considering an academic profession, then they encourage you to pursue on of the postgraduate local programmes.

General requirements
- The General Entry Requirements are the Matriculation Certificate and a pass at grade 5 or better or at SEC Level 3 in the Secondary Education Certificate examinations in English Language, Maltese and Mathematics.
- The Matriculation Certificate comprises six subjects and is awarded if students obtain a certain number of points including passes in a language, a science subject and a humanistic subject as well as a pass in a subject entitled ‘Systems of Knowledge’. Two of the six subjects must be at Advanced Level, three others at Intermediate Level and Systems of Knowledge.
- Applicants are required to complete an interview and an audition. Applicants are also required to submit a completed medical fitness form. Those applicants who are unable to attend the interview and dance audition in person may arrange to complete the process through electronic means of communication.
