Objectives

The Communication Design course at University of Lisbon promotes practices that expand the discourse of the discipline into new territories of social and political action. The programme trains future designers who engage in critical, responsible, and sustainable practices based on the ethical/aesthetic relationship and the theory/design practice relationship.The study plan recognises the breadth of practice — from print media to digital culture — as well as its specialisations and interdisciplinary nature: graphic design, information design, interaction design, editorial design, identity design, audiovisual design, etc. In addition to established fields, it promotes the search for alternatives, aiming to position new generations of designers in value-creation strategies within a global society.

General requirements

Hold a secondary school diploma (or equivalent) that gives access to higher education in your country
Be classified as an “international student” under Portuguese legal rules (non-EU/non-resident status conditions apply)
Demonstrate adequate academic preparation in relevant areas (Arts/Design or related subjects, evaluated by the university)
Prove sufficient knowledge of Portuguese to follow the course (usually B1 level or equivalent, unless otherwise specified)
Apply through the Special Admission Competition for International Students at ULisboa
Meet any additional selection criteria defined by the Faculty (may include portfolio evaluation depending on the year and evaluation process)
