Overview

Over the past few decades, the University of Agriculture Faisalabad has dynamically and timely responded to desirable input for policy and research support for the uplift of rural masses, increased food security and need-based educational and curricular development. The recent phasing out of the Faculty was a result of serious debate and policy discussions in order to address wide range of issues including socioeconomic development, demographic and gender-based challenges, vocational education and outreach, community development and extension for sustainable agriculture. The faculty has been actively involved in research and development activities as well both funded from within Pakistan and abroad. The collaborative partners include DAAD, IFPRI, ACIAR, USAID, ILRI, IWMI and many more. Under WTO set up, concerted efforts are needed to shift our agriculture from subsistence to commercial one putting further pressure to emphasize resource management and commercialization strategy. Such a focus has become a major push factor to pursue for sustainable agricultural development and ultimately rural development. Another impetus for meaningful restructuring and fine tuning of the faculty is to meet emerging requirements of the economy in the light of changing global relationship between Pakistan and China under CPEC regime. The Sociology program is actively involved in assisting provincial and federal governments on various policy issues by contributing through policy briefs and arranging policy oriented seminars and colloquia.
