Overview
The Visual Arts degree at University of Minho is organized around 4 axes: artistic practice, drawing, technology, and theories.Artistic practice is developed in the Atelier, emphasizing the student's vocation through research/practice, accompanied by the teacher and in confrontation with other artists and colleagues. In this course unit, different artistic expressions or dimensions are explored, consciously and solidly developing the student's talent.Drawing is presented as a fundamental and structuring discipline, in continuity with the tradition of artistic education, where multimedia and digital processes (in the areas of Utilization or Programming) are already included in more advanced phases of the course.Technology is thought inclusively, seeking to find commonalities between technologies traditionally associated with painting or sculpture. Thus, Printing, Ceramics, Molds, and Prototyping are worked on in Technologies I, III, and V, and Wood, Plastic, Metal, and Textile in Technologies II, IV, and VI.
The last axis strengthens and consolidates the student's theoretical and critical education through art theory and history, including scientific areas such as philosophy, aesthetics, or performance studies.
