Overview

The bachelor of Civil Protection and Land Management (LPCGT) at University of Minho aims to offer a unique opportunity for higher education in Portuguese Public Universities for professionals with a solid understanding of the concepts, strategies, tools and systemic vision inherent to the tasks developed in the fields of Civil Protection and risks, in the context of land management. The LPCGT is committed to the development of a student profile whose ability to solve problems, within their area of training and ability to make their own arguments, will enable them to support the solutions that they propose and the judgments that they make. The main objectives are the training of students, with the necessary knowledge and tools required to perform activities restricted or related to civil protection and land management.

Key learning outcomes

1. Demonstrate mastery of basic concepts in the fundamental areas of Geography and Engineering, necessary for a systemic vision on the Civil Protection area;

2. Evidence an integrated vision of the principles, agents and technologies of the Civil Protection area;

3. Master techniques that allow him to carry out studies in the area of civil protection and territory management;

4. Evaluate potentialities and constraints of the risk problematic, considering the history of the most emblematic accidents of civil protection

5. Design programs, measures, actions and projects of Civil Protection, both in terms of studies and projects and emergency plans;

6. Implement planning and management actions in crisis or emergency situations;

7. Use geographic information technologies for risk management and territory protection.
