Overview
Throughout this dynamic course, you’ll build your expertise from foundational computational principles to cutting-edge AI applications. This Artificial Intelligence with a Year in Industry (Hons) programme is closely aligned with the world-leading research being carried out in the School of Computing Sciences at University of East Anglia . You won’t just learn about AI—you’ll be immersed in the groundbreaking discoveries that are shaping its future.
You’ll begin by studying essential mathematics, programming skills, databases, and web development, before progressing to specialised AI techniques and their practical implementation. Along the way, you’ll engage with cutting-edge tools and industry-standard frameworks, while developing the critical thinking skills needed to solve complex, real-world problems. Your third year will be spent on a 9-12 month industry placement, gaining invaluable real-world experience in an area of your choice.
Year in Industry
- This course includes a year in industry, giving you invaluable work experience and the chance to build your professional skills and confidence.
- You’ll be expected to seek your own work placement and in the first two weeks of your second year, you'll be asked to write a CV and to apply to a range of companies. Not only will this ensure that you work within your preferred field, but it'll also provide you with the essential job-hunting skills you'll require after graduation. We’ll, of course, offer our guidance and support whilst you’re identifying and negotiating placement opportunities.
- During this year, you’ll be supported by an industrial supervisor and a mentor from the University. You and your industrial supervisor will be in contact during the placement to ensure that it's progressing well, whilst your UEA mentor will visit you during the year.
- Please note that we can’t guarantee any student a work placement as this decision rests with the potential employers.
- If you're unable to secure a work placement by the end of your second year, you’ll have the option to apply to be transferred onto the equivalent degree programme without a year in industry.
