Overview

This Mathematics and Statistics with a Placement Year (Hons) degree from University of East Anglia combines a strong mathematical foundation with advanced study in both mathematics and statistics. You'll study a core set of modules in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics, and you'll also have the opportunity to tailor your degree by choosing from a wide range of optional modules. In your third year, you'll complete a full-time placement lasting nine to 14 months, working for a business or organisation. You’ll apply theoretical knowledge in a professional setting, gaining a valuable advantage for your career when you graduate.

Placement Year

You’ll spend the third year of your four years of study on aâ€¯placement consisting of nine to 14 months of full-time employment. It’ll be up to you to source and secure your placement, but we’ll be here to support you and help you connect with employers.â€¯

During this year, you’ll be supported byâ€¯a placementâ€¯supervisor and a mentor from the university. You and yourâ€¯placementâ€¯supervisor will feed back during the placement to ensure that it’s progressing well, and your UEA mentor will visit you during the year.â€¯

If you change your mind or are unable to secure a work placement by the end of your second year, you’ll have the option to transfer onto the equivalent degree programme without aâ€¯placementâ€¯year.
