Sustainable Development with a Placement Year (Hons) University of East Anglia

Overview

You'll explore how environmental issues, such as climate change, are deeply interconnected with social challenges like poverty, inequality, and wellbeing. You'll discover how sustainable actions need to be based on scientific understanding, as well as environmental justice and inclusiveness. At Sustainable Development with a Placement Year (Hons) you’ll learn about the environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability and develop the creative and critical problem-solving skills needed for major initiatives such as the transition to NetZero carbon futures. As your course progresses, at University of East Anglia you’ll focus on potential solutions to environmental problems, exploring strategies such as Indigenous knowledge, environmental governance, rights for nature, market-based economic incentives, sustainability standards, and emerging technologies.  

Placement Year

You’ll spend 9-12 months in a full-time placement in your third year before returning to your studies in the final year. This placement will allow you to gain invaluable work experience and employability skills in sustainability and the green economy. You’re expected to source your placement yourself, but support is available from academic staff and the UEA Careers Service. We cannot guarantee any student a work placement, as this decision rests with potential employers. If you’ve not successfully secured a work placement by the end of your second year, you’ll be transferred onto the three-year programme.
